I interviewed my mom as a member of the community and she feels that the 21st century human can be summed up by saying they are job orientated, do not live in the present, and full of technology. I interviewed some of my freshman Peer Group students about their views of the 21st century human. They talked a lot about how technology has benefited people and made a lot of things either easier, or possible, as they were impossible to do without technology. For example, they talked about cancer and how there have been more successes in the cancer department which benefit humanity. As a faculty member, I interviewed one of my coaches. He is a science teacher and he also talked about technology as a beneficial thing, but he does not think that the benefits of the 21st century out weigh the things that have gotten worse. For example, the general health of the people of the 21st century is not nearly as good as it was centuries ago. He thinks that people are too occupied with money and work to concentrate enough time and energy on their families and health.
All of the people I interviewed mentioned technology in some way or another. However, the older the people were, the more they looked down on it. They looked at technology as a possible downfall and reasoning for other consequences, such as bad health, but they were still able to notice the positive aspects of technology like the younger students were able to. This is probably because the older a person is, the more they are able to compare things to. People like my mom or a teacher grew up without the same technology that myself or a freshman student grew up with our whole lives.
